14th Street Corridor: One of the early new residential buildings

Our original proposal was to skin the building in copper, but the Historic Preservation Review Board, at that time, still insisted on using brick. The brick we chose was an ironspot in three tones, dark, medium, and light, contrasted by two projections of stamped stainless steel panels. Interestingly, during the basement excavation, the backhoe operator hit an abandoned brick culvert that flooded the site and required a structural redesign to “float” the building over a thick concrete slab.
